WHAT IS A PREPAID CARD?

A prepaid card looks and feels like a credit card but is different in that you only spend what you load. You load money onto the card and spend it in shops, online or take cash out of an ATM rather than spend money and then pay off the balance later. There is no overdraft facility.

HOW DOES A PREPAID CARD WORK?

The Tuxedo Prepaid MasterCard is a MasterCard® Chip and PIN card. This means that it can be used anywhere in the world wherever the MasterCard Acceptance Mark is displayed. It is used in a similar way as a bank or a credit card. The card can be entered into the machine and a PIN used to verify the transaction.

HOW DO I DECIDE WHETHER TO CHOOSE PM OR PAYG?

We offer a choice of 2 tarrifs to ensure that you get the maximum value based on how you plan to use the card:

If you are only looking to use your card for 4-5 transactions per month split between purchase transactions and ATM withdrawals then the Pay As You Go option might be for you. Read more on our Tuxedo Pay As You Go Prepaid MasterCard.

If you are looking for a card that offers the best value and you are planning on making more than 1 ATM withdrawal per month and a high number of transactions then the Pay Monthly option is probably more suited to you. Read more on our Tuxedo Pay Monthly Prepaid MasterCard.

 

DO I NEED TO PASS A CREDIT CHECK?

We do not perform any kind of credit check. We are however required to complete an identity check to match your name to your address. There will be no imprint left on your credit score as a result of applying for a Tuxedo Prepaid MasterCard.

WHAT IF I FAIL THE ID CHECK?

If we cannot verify your identity, you may be asked to provide valid proof of address and identification. You will still be offered an Tuxedo Prepaid MasterCard but you will have a lower balance limit of £1,650 and be subject to some usage restrictions. Please see our fees table for more details. You can easily remove this restriction by upgrading your account free of charge.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR MY CARD TO ARRIVE?

Your card will take 7-10 working days to arrive.

CAN I START USING MY CARD AS SOON AS IT ARRIVES?

No, you will need to activate your card by obtaining your PIN. You can retrieve your PIN from our secure automated PIN retrieval service. Call 020 7070 4902 (24 hours a day, 7 days a week) and follow the instructions.

HOW DO I CHANGE MY PIN?

You can change your PIN at most ATMs. Insert your card and enter your existing PIN, then follow the on-screen instructions to change the PIN to a 4 digit number of your choice. Please ensure you memorise this PIN.

You should never disclose your PIN or personal details to anyone and our customer care will never ask you to reveal your PIN.

CAN I WITHDRAW CASH FROM AN ATM?

It’s possible to withdraw cash at over millions of ATMs worldwide, wherever you see the MasterCard Acceptance Mark.

DO I GET CHARGED WHEN I USE MY CARD FOR CASH WITHDRAWALS OR PURCHASES?

WHERE CAN I USE THE TUXEDO TRAVEL CARD?

You can use the Tuxedo Travel Card anywhere you see the MasterCard Acceptance Mark, currently over millions of locations and millions of ATMs worldwide. This includes in store and online purchases both at home and abroad.

CAN I PAY FOR TOLL CHARGES WITH MY TUXEDO TRAVEL CARD?

The Tuxedo Travel Card is not accepted at road toll terminals. This is because the terminals are “offline” and cannot check the balance of the card in real time.

CAN I PAY FOR PETROL AT THE PUMP WITH MY TUXEDO TRAVEL CARD?

The Tuxedo Travel Card is not accepted at “Pay at Pump” petrol stations. This is because the terminals are “offline” and cannot check the balance of the card in real time.

CAN I USE THE TUXEDO TRAVEL CARD TO BOOK HOTELS AND CAR HIRE?

It is possible, but may create a “shadow balance” on your card until the bill is settled (and for up to 4 days afterwards). This is because hotels and car hire companies take a pre-authorisation for more than the value of the price of the car hire or hotel room. This is to cover damages etc. Whilst this shadow balance is on the card, you won’t be able to access the funds. For example, if the car hire is £300, the car hire company may block off £500. Once you have settled the £300 bill, you won’t be able to use the £200 remaining until the shadow balance has been removed from the card, this is usually within 24 hours but sometimes can take up to 4 days.

ARE THERE ANY USAGE LIMITS?

Yes, there are top up limits as well as usage limits. The limits vary depending on your card type. Please see the fees table for a full list of all the limits.

You must report your card lost or stolen immediately. Please call our lost or stolen telephone line 020 7101 6599 – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

You can also temporarily block your card from being used. Text BLOCK to 80777. Please note that you must have registered your mobile number with us to take advantage of this service.
